What is Malaria? Malaria is caused by a parasite called Plasmodium, which is transmitted via the bites of infected mosquitoes. In the human body, the parasites multiply in the liver, and then infect red blood cells. Symptoms of malaria include fever, headache, and vomiting, and usually appear between 10 and 15 days after the mosquito bite. If not treated, malaria can quickly become life-threatening by disrupting the blood supply to vital organs. In many parts of the world, the parasites have developed resistance to a number of malaria medicines. The Home Health One step Malaria (P.f./Pan) Test is a simple, visual qualitative test that detects HRP-II and LDH in human Whole Blood. The test is based on immunochromatography and can give a result within 15 minutes.
Plasmodium falciparum is responsible for the majority of malaria deaths globally and is the most prevalent species in sub-Saharan Africa. The remaining species are not typically as life threatening as P. falciparum. Plasmodium vivax, is the second most significant species and is prevalent in South East Asia and Latin America. P. vivax and Plasmodium ovale have the added complication of a dormant liver stage, which can be reactivated in the absence of a mosquito bite, leading to clinical symptoms. P. ovale and Plasmodium malariae represent only a small percentage The One Step Malaria (P.f./Pan) Test is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Plasmodium falciparum (P.f. HRP-II) antigen and P. vivax, P. ovale, or P. malariae antigen (Pan LDH) in Whole Blood to aid in the diagnosis of Malaria (P.f./Pan).Test Pack includes:
